How we design

We design backwards from behaviour.

KnowPack learning experiences begin with the change the learning should enable — not with a list of content.

Let’s talk

The A B Journey

Every project starts by describing two states, then designing the route between them.

A — Current state

Where learners are today

  • Knowledge
  • Skills
  • Behaviour
  • Confidence
  • Experience
  • Context
  • Constraints

Between A and B we design the learning journey

Knowledge Practice Scenarios Feedback Assessment Reflection Application Reinforcement
B — Desired state

What should become different

  • What learners understand
  • What they can do
  • How they make decisions
  • How they behave
  • How they perform

Learning does not happen in isolation.

Three conditions have to hold at once. Miss one, and the learning stays theoretical.

Know

Do I know how?

Knowledge, skills and understanding. The part most courses cover — and often the only part.

Want

Do I see the value and want to act?

Motivation, relevance and confidence. Without it, people can explain the method and still not use it.

Can

Can I apply it in my environment?

Conditions, tools, support and opportunity. The part that lives outside the course — and decides whether it survives.

Effective learning supports knowing, wanting and being able to act.

Our learning design principles

01

Start with performance

Define what needs to change before creating any content.

02

Keep content purposeful

Include what supports the learning outcome. Remove what does not.

03

Make learners think

Interaction should require meaningful cognitive activity, not simply clicking.

04

Provide practice

Skills require opportunities to make decisions and try things out.

05

Give useful feedback

Feedback should help learners understand how to improve — not only whether they were right.

06

Assess what matters

Assessment should be aligned with the desired learning and performance outcome.

07

Support application

Whenever possible, connect learning with the learner’s real context.

08

Reinforce over time

Important learning should not depend on a single exposure.

Where does
yours start?

What should your learners be able to do differently?

Tell us where your people are today and where they need to be. We’ll map the journey between.
